Breathe Easy, Breathitt County
The BCPL is now a completely smoke-free facility. This includes all properties owned by the BCPL (front and back parking lots, side streets and sidewalks). No one is permitted to smoke within 75 feet of the front doors to the Main Library or the Annex Building.
"Effective February 1, 2016, the Board of Trustees has adopted a Tobacco and Vape Free Policy for the entire campus of the Breathitt County Public Library as required by the Kentucky Executive Branch and the Protection of Children Act. Smoking in or near the buildings including sidewalks could result in the suspension of Library use privileges or removal from the premises."
How much does a copy cost?
$0.10 per page for black and white copies. $0.50 per page for color copies.
How much does it cost to fax?
$1.00 per page: in or out.
What can I bring in?
The BCPL prohibits the use of any and all tobacco and smoking-related items including but not limited to E-Cigs or any Vape Products and any tobacco product including smokeless tobacco.
Patrons may not have food or drink near the computers or books at ANY time. Patrons with food items must keep them on the tiled surface of the BCPL Lobby.
How much is a Library Card?
For Breathitt County residents, a Library Card is completely FREE, but for patrons who live outside of Breathitt County, there is a fee of $25.00 for a four-year card. This is a new policy from the BCPL Board of Trustees. Please contact the Library for more details.
What do I need to apply for a Library Card?
A valid state issued or Military ID and proof of residency in Breathitt County.
How do return my books if you are closed?
Drop them in the silver box near the front door. This box is checked every morning after opening, locked during the operating hours and unlocked at closing every evening.
Can I check out movies?
Any patron over the age of 18 with a valid Library Card can check out any item in circulation. Most movies have a one-day check-out (some are two weeks, look for an "overnight" sticker on the spine of the case to easily know how long you can check the title out). While books have a two-week check-out window, books from our Home School section have a check-out window of one month.
The BCPL, like any library, has fines attached to late materials. A book accrues a late charge of $.25 per day, while a movie accrues a charge of $1.00 per day late. If a title is lost, you will be charged the replacement price of that title (this charge can be found in the front of our books and on the "card" of any disc title.)
Do you take credit cards?
Yes, we accept all major credit and debit cards, as well as checks and Apple Pay and Samsung Pay.
Do you rent rooms for baby showers, birthdays or events? Yes, we have several rooms available. Each of our three meeting rooms features access to plugins, at least 15' x 30' of floor space and free WiFi. These spaces cost $50.00 for two hours of time. These rooms cannot be used for the purpose of profit. (No Avon, Mary Kay, Tupperware Parties, etc.) You can decorate these spaces, but please NO TAPE and NO STAPLES.
